Program Notes on our 25th Anniversary by Bob Bondurant - July 2010

This year we celebrate 25 years of service to Missouri physicians. 1985 was the year that the Missouri Physician Health Foundation became incorporated as a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation. Prior to 1985, the MSMA had a program to assist physicians under the leadership of Dr. Donald McIntosh. Dr. McIntosh volunteered his time and dedication to helping troubled colleagues. His dream eventually became the legal entity now known as the Missouri Physicians Health Program.

After many years of operating with a skeleton crew, we have finally reached a strong level of service delivery which we seek to maintain. The challenge now is to strengthen the funding we now enjoy during this time of financial stress.

Many of our sister physician health programs that depend on governmental funding are in jeopardy. Missouri State Medical Association is to be commended for establishing MPHP’s independence, free of governmental and regulatory funding.

Since our inception, we have helped over one thousand physician participants and their families. We are very proud of our record of success. Without your help, our very existence would not be possible. Our livelihood depends on the generous contributions of our loyal supporters. It is essential that the MPHP is available to help when we are needed. You play a vital role in the continuance of our program.

If you have the opportunity to advocate for funding for our program with your medical staff, hospital or other organization, I urge you to do so.

You may also wish to participate in the MPHP Walk for Recovery. You can participate as a virtual walker. Please contact us to learn more or see our previous issue for detailed information.
